Running rhythm

When I signed up for my race, I was really confused as to where I should start. I read allot online about different training programmes. Personally, I found them to be a little overwhelming. So I decided that I would first find my own running rhythm.

I was tempted to buy a heart monitor and various other gadgets But, I decided I would just start running. See how far I could run, without the use of any tools. So, I have been doing just that. I think that is the best thing I could have done for me, because by listening to my body and sticking to it – I have managed to find my running rhythm and over this time actually bettering my tme and distance.

I have been running now 5-6 times a week and doing weight training. I also have been using foam rollers, and even though it does feel awkward doing it in front of others at the gym – I think it’s making a big difference to my running.

This is getting better and better for each day. Setting my alarm for 5.30 and ready to just do it!

My first 10K

Eeeek. I did it. I signed up for my first race. Well, I actually signed up for it about 2 weeks ago. I was in a short relay last year during my pregnancy. It was so much fun, and I always told myself that I would sign up for a race after my pregnancy.

I have always looked at people that run races or marathons and thought, oh goodness – that could never be me. But, over the years I have changed my perspective on health and fitness. It’s become one of my favourite things. Mostly because, I have two young girls. And, I want to give them all the tools I can give them to make sure they can have a balanced life.

So, after our incredible vacation in Florida. I came back, wanting a purpose. A challenge. I was asked by a friend, to join her on a marathon next year, the distance is too much for me. So, I wanted to start small and try a 10K before the end of the year. I already enjoy working out, but at least now – I have a goal. It is a really awesome feeling, to be steering towards something and challenging your mind and body.

The race is part of the Oslo Marathon, on the 20 September. So, I have some weeks of intensive training ahead of me. Some people don’t look at the 10K as such a big deal, but for me it is. I hope to walk away from it feeling like I could one day do a half-marathon.

I have already started my training, and will be putting up my weekly training schedule, as well as sharing how I plan to fuel my body.

Feeling pumped! xoxo

Mondays motivation

I know that something worth fighting for, will always be a tough battle. This is true for love, family, career choices, school etc.  I also know, that we control much more than we think with the power of our minds. It is truly, mind over matter. It’s not something you do just one specific day, but continuously.
I have a goal. It is do-able. But, before me lies all of life’s challenges. I choose not to use them as excuses. I choose rather, to figure our how to balance it all. It is never easy but, I want success bad enough to see this through.

Mind over matter.

Happy monday! xoxo

Mondays motivation

This is what I needed this monday morning. Sometimes I do just want to throw the towel in, sit on the couch & do nothing. Oh yes, and eat countless scoops of Ben & Jerry’s. But, I stopped myself. I am happy that I made that conscious decision.

I have come to accept that the journey I am on, will be a long one. It’s so hard to accept that because you want fast results. But, it made it easier once I made peace with this. I do have a clear idea of what I want to achieve. But, I know that me wanting success has to be so ingrained in my brain, that I will not give up. This is hard. But, in the end – it will be worth the sweet taste of success.

Have an awesome week! xoxo

Microdermabrasion at home

While pregnant, I came across a super simple at home facial scrub that left my face feeling very soft & glowing. Now, it’s possible that some of that glow was actually because of being preggo. But, recently after using it I have found the same effects.
The items should be somewhere in your kitchen, and it’s just three simple ingredients.

I have used expensive exfoliation products, and this scrub is way better than store bought products. Coconut oil is also great for oily skin. It’s a great multi-purpose oil that I use for both cooking and beauty. Of course, I have one separate bottle for the kitchen and the bathroom🙂
Olive oil works really great too. But, I have seen better results with coconut oil.

Coconut lime scrub:
2 parts coconut oil (use organic if you can)
1 part baking soda
lime zest

Mix the coconut oil and baking soda and add the lime zest. Easy!
I gently massage the scrub all over my face, also including my neck. I let it sit for about 5-10 minutes. I use the remainder of the scrub and rub it over both the top of my hands. This scrub is really great for all skin types, and very important if you have dry skin. It helps to remove all dead skin cells and the coconut moisturises like no other. I try do it every two weeks or so or every week if i feel that I need it.
Result.. leaves your skin feeling baby soft and smelling great too!
Just a note, if you use it on your lips and around your lips – it will taste really salty because of the baking soda.

Here’s to glowy dewy skin as we move into the beautiful spring/summer months!🙂 xoxo

Mondays motivation

This mondays motivation is coming from my fav t-shirt. It fits great and the fabric is soft. But, what i most love is the truth behind the text.
It rings true with everything in life. You have to work for what you truly want. Wishes are not the stuff success is made from. Hard work is.
I’ve been fooling myself to think my eating was ok. But, i’m making some solid changes this week. For example, not to continuously snack & get in enough water. Simple & do-able!

Hope your plans are going well, if not just pick yourself up & evaluate how you can get back on track!
Happy monday! xoxo

2014 Breaking a sweat

Just completed my first workout after baby, and the first of the year. Wow! What an awesome feeling to feel again. One that only working out can make you feel.

I did a 30 min session, with five of my favourite kettlebell moves: Swing, 1 arm swing, Squat, lunge & standing 1 arm side crunch. Took 5 min after for a good stretch. Drank plenty of water during, needing to refill my bottle a few times in between. Ended up with that sweet postworkout sweat!

My husband complimented me afterwards, telling me that he could see that I was back😉

Haven’t written down any fitness goals this year. I will work on it, but right now listening to my body & taking it slow.

Looking forward to many more sweaty sessions, with my glossy kettlebells😉

Mondays motivation

My flame has always been burning. Sometimes brighter than other times. I’ve learned along the way, the fuel that gets it to burn the brightest and longest, is the love I get from my husband & beautiful daughter. I’m forever & always going to treasure it.
What keeps your flame going?

Hot lemon

A while back, I had been sick had a sore throat. Being preggo you’re kinda limited to meds. So I kept it simple & tried to soothe my throat drinking cups & cups of warm water with lemon & honey. Sometimes added some fresh ginger.

Ever since, I’ve been keeping it up. Noticed that it’s been helping to make sure I’m hydrated & I’ve noticed a difference in my skin.

This is a great way to start your day before grabbing that coffee or tea, and even better to end your day. Perfect warming drink for the winter!

Mondays motivation

Guess this should be called late Monday motivation. But, I try to think of these as things to keep me going strong the rest of the week.

Just a while back, we watched The Incredibles with Ella Sophie. She watched it with us once before when she was younger but she really got the whole superhero thing now. Love how she recognizes her dad as Mr.Incredible🙂
The line from the movie really stuck. It’s so true, but even better is the tone in which she says it. With conviction & just pure damn certainty.

We need to let our past go so that we can truly move forward. Make peace with it, yourself & just move on. There is a whole life waiting for you to live it.

Hope your Monday has been a good one! … Yes, before I forget.. I haven’t been so good at updating. Nearing the end of my 2nd pregnancy & just been busy preparing. Do like this space, so will do my best to fill it up with all of life’s lovely & not so lovely happenings.

Take care xoxo
